Amon G. Carter Stadium at Texas Christian University (TCU)
Request
TCU tapped Speed Fab Crete’s high-strength precast concrete walls as part of its $164 million expansion of its existing Amon G. Carter Stadium in Fort Worth, which was originally built in 1929 with a seating capacity of 22,000.
Solution
The planned renovation soon expanded into a rebuild of the entire stadium above ground level, and partially below (only the below-ground-level playing field and lower seating bowl were retained). Everything else, including much of the subterranean infrastructure, was rebuilt. This project encompassed roughly 105,000-SF of new space and introduced enhanced concourse areas, upgraded entry features, brand-new concourses, press level, 40,000-SF of exterior walkways, and a 23,000-SF Champions Lounge and Founders’ Plaza. To maintain consistency with TCU’s architectural style, Speed Fab Crete’s walls and other precast structural components were adorned with TCU’s iconic buff brick blend, along with the use of arches and stone detailing.
Results
Speed Fab Crete was able to deliver on TCU’s request to complement the broader campus architecture while simultaneously giving Horned Frog athletics a new image for its football program by drawing inspiration from its storied past. The collaborative project team created an iconic facility that elevates the fan experience. Now, on Saturdays in the fall, 50,000 filled seats resonate with cheers as fans rally behind the Horned Frogs toward victory.
