Radiation Oncology Center Expansion at UT-Southwestern

The University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center is home to the largest medical school in Texas and one of the most advanced and comprehensive cancer treatment programs in the nation. There was such a strong demand for its therapies that the University of Texas system was looking to significantly expand its Radiation Oncology Center just one year after it was built, and called upon Speed Fab Crete’s architectural precast wall panels as a key part of its construction process. 

Solution

Speed Fab Crete designed & produced integrally colored wall panels using custom-made horizontal rib form liners. Through innovative planning, the center optimized the quantity of life-saving linear accelerator vaults and elevated the overall patient journey, while doubling in size and capacity.

Results

The Phase II expansion for UT-Southwestern’s Radiology Oncology Center created a complementary, connected building that doubled the number of linear accelerator vaults, the sophisticated technology that allows for personalized, adaptive radiation therapy. Following project completion, Speed Fab Crete received two national “Awards of Excellence” from the Architectural Precast Association for excellence in medical/government and green building design.
